Tiny Humans, Tiny Footprints: Why We Started Tootsie Tootsie Kids

Let's be honest about something. Kids are professional outgrowers. You buy the impossibly cute rain boots, they wear them through exactly one Vancouver puddle season, and suddenly those boots couldn't fit a chubby toddler toe if you tried. The snowsuit from January? By next winter it's a crop top. The "0–3 months" onesie? Blink. Gone. Your child is now a small dinosaur in a 2T.

This is the great paradox of small humans: they are growing machines wrapped in clothing that barely gets used. And that's exactly the gap Tootsie Tootsie Kids was born to fill.

We chose second-hand on purpose

We're an online children's consignment shop based right here in Vancouver, and we carry the whole growing-up journey: clothing from newborn 0 all the way to 14 years, plus toys, books, maternity and nursing gear, and more. (Basically, if it helps you survive and snuggle a small human, we probably have a pre-loved version of it.) We didn't fall into second-hand by accident — we ran toward it with open arms (and a very full laundry basket).

Here's the thing nobody tells you: most kids' clothing is barely worn. A toddler lives in a garment for a few months, maybe spills some yogurt on it, and then graduates to the next size before the fabric has any right to call itself "used." That little dress has so much life left. Why should it end up in a landfill when it could be twirling around someone else's living room next week?

So we give it a second act. Carefully curated, freshly inspected, ready for its next adventure. And it's not just clothes — the board books read a hundred times, the toys that got loved hard for one magical year, the nursing pillow and maternity wear you needed for a season and a half — all of it has so much life left, too.

The circular economy, but make it adorable

"Circular economy" sounds like something you'd hear in a very serious boardroom with very serious slideshows. But honestly? It's the most natural thing in the world, and parents have been doing it forever. Hand-me-downs are circular economy. The cousin's bin of outgrown sweaters is circular economy. The friend who shows up with a garbage bag of gently-loved jumpers and says "take whatever fits" — circular economy royalty.

All we've done is take that beautiful, generous, neighbourly instinct and give it a home online. Clothes come in, get loved, find a new family, repeat. Nothing gets wasted. Everything keeps moving. The little rain boots live to splash another day.

And the planet? The planet is into it. The fashion industry is one of the thirstiest, most wasteful industries out there, and kids' fast fashion is a particularly speedy offender. Choosing pre-loved means fewer new things manufactured, fewer resources guzzled, and a lot less perfectly good clothing rotting in a dump. Tiny humans, tiny footprints.

Community is the whole point

Consignment is a quiet little act of community care. When you consign with us, the things your child has outgrown go on to help another local family kit out their own growing kid for a fraction of retail. You make a bit back, they save a bunch, and a wonderful jacket gets to keep being a wonderful jacket. Everybody wins. Especially the jacket.

We love that we get to be a small hub in that exchange connecting Canadian families to each other through a steady stream of well-loved, well-priced, genuinely good stuff. It's commerce, sure, but it feels a lot more like a neighbourhood swap meet that happens to have a checkout button.

So, come hang out with us

Whether you're clearing out a closet of outgrown treasures or hunting for that perfect not-too-precious play outfit, you've got a spot here. Shopping second-hand isn't settling it's the smart, kind, surprisingly fun way to dress a kid who's going to grow out of it all by Tuesday anyway.

Second-hand. Local. Circular. Adorable.

That's Tootsie Tootsie Kids and we're so glad you're here.
